Art
Ancient Egyptian art is five thousand years old. It emerged and took shape in the ancient Egypt, the civilization of the Nile Valley. Expressed in paintings and sculptures, it was highly symbolic and fascinating - this art form revolves round the past and was intended to keep history alive.Ancient Egyptian art forms are characterized by regularity and detailed depiction of human beings and the nature, and, were intended to provide company to the deceased in the 'other world'. Artists' endeavored to preserve everything of the present time as clearly and permanently as possible. Completeness took precedence over prettiness. Some art forms present an extraordinarily vivid representation of the time and the life, as the ancient Egyptian life was lived thousand of years before.
Egyptian Structures
Obelisks - a single four-sided column with a pointed tip
Represented the sun god Ra(Re). Obelisks pointed toward the sky in order to show the way to resurrection. They were often erected at either end of an entrance into a temple.
Temples - Temples were places where the gods lived on earth. The Pharaoh along with priests would make offerings to the gods in order to keep the gods happy.
Sphinx - Body of a lion and the head of a king (god). The paws are 50 feet long while the entire length is 150 feet. Located in Giza, the Sphinx is know to have been commissioned by Pharaoh Khafre (2558-2532 BCE). Directly behind the Sphinx is his pyramid which is the second largest in Egypt.
Pyramids - A massive monument containing a tomb, where the base is a perfect square connecting to form an apex at the top. The largest pyramid is the Great Pyramid of the Pharaoh Khufu.
